Adventure holidays in Ecuador & The Galapagos Islands
Ecuador is the smallest nation sitting on the Andes but is so quintessentially South American, you?ll find everything you?re dreaming of from a South American adventure here. In fact, Ecuador out does many other South American countries ? there are more bird species per mile in Ecuador than any other country on the continent and there are more orchids than anywhere else in the world. And of course, Ecuador has the Galapagos Islands, a huge draw for many of the tourists here.
The isolated volcanic Galapagos islands have a fragile ecosystem that supports many endemic species of birds, reptiles and marine life. 600 miles from the nearest land, there?s a lack of natural predators and you?ll find yourself closer than you could have imagined to playful sea lions and gigantic sea tortoises. By exploring the islands using adventure activities you?ll get to see a different side and feel more involved with life here, whether that?s by snorkelling among the fish, kayaking near the sea lions or cycling over the rocky terrain. Imagine floating serenely by each unique island on a paddle board as dolphins leap off shore. Each island has its own unique landscape ? it?s what makes them the most famous wildlife-watching destination in the world.
The best time to visit Ecuador is between June and September, when the days are sunny and clear in the highlands. The best time to visit the Galapagos is between January and May, which brings hot, sunny days with the odd heavy shower.
